QWIKSENSE DASHBOARD
For QwikSense we were asked to design a dashboard for their indoor climate monitor system. The system analyses CO2, temperature, humidity and more, using small monitor devices.
The target group were HR managers, and we know they have a lot of stuff to do. So the challenge was to design an effective service that notifies them when they were needed.
Does it work?
We came up with the idea of sending notifications where users can simply look at the screen, read the problem and solve it in an instant. For example: When installing QwikSense for a company building one could link every employé to a designated room with the dashboard. If by any chance the CO2 emission of a certain room rises too high, the dashboard sends a notification towards the designated person of that room to solve that problem by giving him/her a few options like “open the windows for 15 minutes”. Trough collective effort and automisation the people inside the building optimise the climate inside.
Pitching
We showcased the concept to QwikSense using InVision so we could show the inner workings in detail. They were intrigued by the functionalities of the dashboard and were especially fond of the notification system. Afterwards we sat down and talked about possible future design implementations regarding the development of the dashboard.
Iteration
We started with prototyping in an early stage, but our focus was a little bit off. We were too busy with the looks instead of the flow of the dashboard. User needs were a hassle and we had to focus on priority tasks. After a couple iterations we decided to bring it back to the essentials.
Bigger target group
The tasks required to do were easy tasks, so not only the HR-managers should have to do them, everyone in the building could. So we added the function to notify people to solve small tasks that we know off are close to the problem. The target group was bigger than expected, and climate control (closing windows for example) wasn’t really a job for an HR-manager. A concierge could easily handle the job. Now people could handle climate control with each other instead of just one person. The dashboard worked, but it didn’t work in favor of the user. Something was missing.
